PAST MEETING SPEAKER: Bob Santoro, reported on the Mountain Garden Club's North Conway Community Center Project, 2016. Bob is a board member of that club.

The Mountain Garden Club in North Conway, New Hampshire, was asked to landscape their new community center. As a little background, North Conway is a village within the town of Conway, which is bounded on the east by the Maine border and the White Mountains National Forest is to the west and north.

The community center pictured above, was the site of the project. It was a new larger community center that had recently been completed.

Bob proposed a project which would beautify the space while not consuming a great deal of time or money

Bob was able to organize business donors so that the bulk of the cost was borne by local and national businesses.

What follows are a series of photos that show the progress of this project as it took shape.

There were also a sufficient number of volunteers on this project., as can be seen in the prior photos. Home Depot was one of the contributors and their employees are seen in orange above bringing donated products to the work site. The condition of having Home Depot involved was that veterans needs must be met in some manner. This was accomplished with (4) benches, each depicting a branch of the U.S. armed forces, as shown in the photo below.

The project included sprinklers, plants, a dry creek bed, and a bridge over that dry creek bed. Additionally, there were various plants and sod installed.

The meeting place for the Activity Day is at the west end of El Carro, as shown on the map below. We'll be planting native plants and turning some soil. To get there from Santa Barbara, travel south on 101, exit Carpinteria Avenue. Turn left at the light. Then travel straight, past the stop sign, to El Carro where you turn left. Proceed to the end of the street. RSVP with Ray Kolbe at (805) 705-3429 for lunch. Brings shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, etc.
